Culmination of Black Arrow 2014 - airborne landing and assault on objects controlled by an adversary


This year's largest tactical field exercise Black Arrow 2014 of the Mechanised Infantry Brigade (MIB) Iron Wolf involving approximately 1.5 thousand Lithuanian and U.S. military personnel is at the run-in. On May 22 the major training event will be crowned by a joint airborne landing and assault on enemy objects operation executed by Lithuanian soldiers and NATO allies - U.S. paratroopers.


During the final operation of Exercise Black Arrow 2014 reconnaissance personnel of the MIB Iron Wolf and soldiers of the 173rd Airborne Brigade of the U.S. Army in Europe (USAREUR) will conduct parachute jumps into an area controlled by hostile forces. The paratroopers will regroup and with support from other Lithuanian brigade's units will assault the designated objects seeking to neutralise the enemy secured there and to take over control of the objects.


Over 100 Lithuanian and U.S exercise participants will be involved in the operation.


The operation is expected to be observed by Minister of National Defence Juozas Olekas, Commander of the Lithuanian Land Force Major General Almantas Leika, commanders of other services of the Lithuanian Armed Forces, leadership of participating military units, representatives of the U.S. Embassy in Lithuania, defence attachés accredited to Lithuania, mayor of Jonava Mindaugas Sinkevičius, and other guests.


For the Media

Media representatives are invited to observe the joint Lithuanian-U.S. operation at the Gaižiūnų Training Range on May 22. Tentative time of the beginning - 1.45 p.m.


Media representatives willing to observe the exercise, and interview exercise leadership and guest should register before 10.00 a.m., May 22, by email: [email protected] or at 00370 614 35 693. The registered media should arrive at the base of the MIB Iron Wolf (Karaliaus Mindaugo Str. 11, Rukla, Jonavos Distr.) at 00.40 p.m.


The Ministry of National Defence will offer transport for the media representatives travelling to the closing ceremony of Exercise Black Arrow 2014 from Vilnius. Those willing to use the MoD transport are to inform the MoD Public Relations Department no later than May 22, 9.00 a.m., by email [email protected]; or phone no: 00370 5 273 5519, 00370 687 90765. The MoD transport will depart from in front of the Ministry of National Defence (Totorių Str.25) on May 22 at 11.00 a.m.( phone no.00370 8 687 90 765).

00.40-1.15 p.m.       Going to the location of the exercise at the Gaižiūnų Training Range (transport will be provided by the Lithuanian Armed Forces);
1.15 - 1.35 p.m.Presentation of Exercise Black Arrow 2014;
1.35 - 1.45 p.m. Arrangement for observation;
1.45 - 2.35 p.m.

Observation (constraining the enemy, airborne landing and assault on enemy objects);

2.35 - 2.50 p.m.                                       Interview opportunity;
2.50 - 3.00 p.m. Exposition of weaponry;
3.00 - 3.30 p.m. Exercise closing ceremony;
3.30 p.m.End of event, transportation back to the military base.
