Maritime-focused exercise BALTOPS 2019 begins in the Baltic Sea

On 14-16 June two largest NATO ship formation groups - Standing NATO Maritime Group One (SNMG1) and Standing NATO Mine Countermeasures Group 1 (SNMGMG1) will participate in one of the largest annual naval exercise BALTOPS 2019 in the Lithuanian territorial waters of the Baltic Sea.

On June 8 two-week international Exercise Iron Wolf 2019-1 begins. Approximately 4,000 soldiers from 10 countries will train not only in military training areas of Gaižiūnai (Jonava region) and General Sivestras Žukauskas (Švenčionys region) but also in civilian territories and their surroundings. Columns of military vehicles will drive to exercise sites via public roads and urban areas.

On June 5 - 10 LNS Aukštaitis (P14) patrol ship takes part in multinational manoeuvres Baltic Coach 2019 in the Baltic Sea. She will train with FGS U-33 submarine and FGS Fehmarn of the German Navy.

"Soldiers under my command are sent to the NATO enhanced Forward Presence Battalion Battle Group in Lithuania because we are staunch NATO allies and we are stronger together. We understand that your borders are our borders which makes the defence of your country a priority for us. On May 30-31 Commander of the Royal Netherlands Army Lieutenant General Leo Beulen is conducting a visit in Lithuania. The guest will meet with Chief of Defence of Lithuania Lt Gen Jonas Vytautas Žukas, Commander of the Lithuanian Land Force Maj Gen Valdemaras Rupšys, and will observe Sniper Day 2019 shooting competition at the Gaižiūnai Training Area in Rukla (Jonava region).

On May 10 - June 7 Exercise Immediate Response 2019 co-organised by the U.S. Army Europe and NATO allies is running in Croatia, Slovenia and Hungary, the multinational exercise is held to strengthen regional security and develop military cooperation of the participating countries. Designed to rain completion of logistic tasks, the exercise involves approximately 1,600 soldiers from 15 countries. Soldiers of the Reconnaissance Platoon of the Lithuanian Grand Duke Butigeidis Dragoon Battalion participating on Lithuania's behalf are practising terrain and object reconnaissance tasks.

C-27J Spartan helicopter of the Lithuanian Air Force was deployed to Romania on May 13-24 to take part in international exercise European Spartan 2019. All the other participants of the exercise Bulgaria, Italy, Slovakia and Romania also deployed C-27J transport aircraft one per each, and Romania also dedicated F-16 fighter aircraft for air threat simulation and air support.
