On September 18-19 Chief of Defence of Lithuania Lieutenant General Jonas Vytautas Žukas conducted a formal visit to Estonia. He met with Chief of Defence of Estonia General Riho Terras at the Defence Staff of Estonia in Tallinn and discussed regional security, military cooperation of the two countries, and expressed delight about the alignment on different strategic regional security aspects.

On September 14 largest joint international exercise of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and the U.S. Army Europe (USAREUR) Rapid Trident 2018 concluded at Yavoriv Training Area in Lviv oblast. Lithuania was represented at the exercise by military instructors conducting the Military Mission in Ukraine and by staff officers and NCOs of the trilateral Lithuanian, Polish and Ukrainian Great Hetman Konstantinas Ostrogiškis of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania Brigade.

On September 14 M1 Abrams tanks and Bradley infantry fighting vehicles of the 1st Battalion, 7th Cavalry Regiment, currently deployed in Poland, were unloaded at Pabradė Railway Station. The units will be training at Gen. Silvestras Žukauskas Training Area in Pabradė until the end of September alongside troops of the Mechanised Infantry Brigade Iron Wolf, Lithuanian Armed Forces, and the NATO enhanced Forward Presence Battalion Battle Group.

On September 6 Ambassador of Sweden in Lithuania HE Maria Christina Lundqvist and Defence Attaché of Sweden Örjan Ström thanked crews of Lithuanian Air Force Mi-8 helicopter for helping distinguish fires in Sweden and presented a letter of commendation from Supreme Commander of Sweden General Micael Bydén.

This Wednesday, on 29 August, three military equipment convoys of Belgian and Luxembourg Armed Forces decorated with Lithuanian insignia Vytis and NATO flags are going to conduct movement from Klaipėda sea port to the NATO enhanced Forward Presence Battle Group's home station in Rukla by main land roads: Klaipėda - Kaunas - Jonava. These forces are new rotations of Belgian and Luxembourg servicemen assigned to the battle group in Lithuania. The battle group will be augmented by 65 pieces of military equipment. The Belgian and Luxembourg troops arrived in Lithuania at weekend by plane.

New rotation of the Netherlands' soldiers began their training in Lithuania

After several weeks of preparations, soldiers of the new rotation from the Netherlands assigned to the NATO enhanced Forward Presence Battalion Battle Group held their first training event in the territory of Lithuania. According to them, terrain and weather conditions differ from those in the Netherlands or Germany where they are used to be training. Forests are thick, roads are narrow and boggy, and weather is changeable, all of which is a challenge to soldiers while completing tasks.

Chief of Defence of Lithuania Lieutenant General Jonas Vytautas Žukas is concluding his week-long trip to the US by a visit in Washington on August 14-16.

 

Practically the most important part of the visit took place on August 15. It began with a Full Honour Arrival Ceremony held for the Lithuanian Chief of Defence at Whiple Field Park. Host of the ceremony Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen Joseph F. Dunford presented to LT Gen J.V.Žukas the Commander Degree Medal of the Legion of Merit.
