Chief of the Defence Staff on a working visit to Poland


On September 21 Chief of the Defence Staff of the Lithuanian Armed Forces Brigadier General Gintautas Zenkevičius attended the 20th anniversary of the Multinational Corps Northeast (MNC-NE) in Poland.

"We are maintaining close relations with the MNC-NE leadership because we are interested in it having concrete plans for a quick defence reinforcement in our country. The Multinational Corps Northeast is responsible for the defence of our nation, the NATO Force Integration Units in the Baltic states , Poland, Slovakia and Hungary, as well as the Multinational Division Northeast HQ in Poland, are under its operational command," Brig Gen G. Zenkevičius said.

The Multinational Corps Northeast HQ based in Szczecin, Poland, is subordinate to the Supreme Allied Commander Europe. It was certified as the Land Component Command HQ of the NATO Response Force in 2018 during Exercise Saber Strike. Roughly 450 soldiers and civilians of 19 countries, including 8 Lithuanian officers, are currently serving at the Multinational Corps Northeast.

The mission of the Multinational Corps Northeast is to maintain readiness for a quick redeployment and take over the command in the area of operations as directed by the Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe (SHAPE) as the Corps or the Land Component Command HQ.
