Five NATO allies will deploy staffs to Nemenčinė for Exercise Saber Strike 15


Preparations are taking place at the General Adolfas Ramanauskas Warfare Training Centre in Nemenčinė for international Exercise Saber Strike 15 due to begin on June 1. Throughout the exercise (June 1-12) in Nemenčinė brigade staffs of 5 NATO allies, Denmark, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania and the United States, will practice planning offensive and defensive operations.


Command posts, computer networks and military villages for the exercises were installed by members of logistics and communications battalions of the Mechanised Infantry Brigade Iron Wolf of the Lithuanian Armed Forces, Brigade of the Latvian Land Force, and the Danish Division.

Exercise Saber Strike 2015 held concurrently in the three Baltic States and Poland will train roughly 6 thousand troops from 13 NATO allies and partner nations, half of them will train in Lithuania. The exercise is two-fold: field training exercise (FTX) and brigade-level command post exercise (CPX) with computer simulation systems.

Saber Strike is an annual exercise held by the U.S. Army Europe in the Baltic State and Poland. Saber Strike 15 is the fifth iteration of the series held in Lithuania. The part of the exercise in Lithuania will involve roughly 1.6 thousand Lithuanian military and 1.5 thousand troops from 8 NATO countries - Denmark, Estonia, Latvia, Portugal, USA, Germany, Slovenia and Canada.


Roughly 1 thousand of Portuguese, U.S. and German military personnel will bring an impressive arsenal of military materiel: the ABRAMS tanks, the STRYKER, the BOXER and the PANDUR IFVs, the FUCHS armoured personnel carriers, the EAGLE IV and the DINGO II reconnaissance vehicles.

On June 1 Commander of the Lithuanian Land Force Major General Almantas Leika, Officer Scheduling the Exercise in Lithuania, will hold a press conference and present the exercise at the Ministry of National Defence (Totorių str. 25) on June 1. The press conference starts at 10.30 a.m. at the MoD Black Hall (ground floor).


Exercise Saber Strike 15 is planned to opened with a formal ceremony on June 8 in Rukla and Pabradė (to be updated).
