Media invited to a press conference on large-scale multinational exercise Iron Sword 2014 to take place in Lithuania next week


On October 29 at a press conference at the Ministry of National Defence Chief of Defence of Lithuania Major General Jonas Vytautas Žukas and Commander of the Lithuanian Land Force Major General Almantas Leika will present multinational large-scale exercise Iron Sword 2014 which will be held on November 2-14 for the first time in Lithuania.


Allies and equipment are already arriving for Iron Sword 2014 which will continue right till the opening of exercise. With that in mind, Lithuania's military leadership is aiming at ensuring public awareness as wide as possible on the exercise and the scheduled movement of allied military and equipment in the territory of Lithuania.


The participants will reach the exercise sites at the Gaižiūnų and the General Silvestras Žukauskas (Pabradės) Training Areas by various modes: by air (from Vilnius International Airport), by sea (from Klaipėda Seaport), by railway (from Šeštokų and Pabradės Railway Stations), and by various public roads.


Exercise Iron Sword 2014 will involve roughly 2.5 thousand participants from 9 NATO countries - the Czech Republic, Estonia, U.S.A., UK, Canada, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Hungary and Germany, and around 300 NATO tactical equipment.

The press conference is held on October 29, 1030 hrs, at the Black Hall of the Ministry of National Defence (Totorių str. 25, Vilnius)
