Winners of „Lithuanian Armed Forces in Photography 2008-2009

June 18, award ceremony of Tadas Dambrauskas' Photography Contest „Lithuanian Armed Forces in Photography 2008-2009" will take place in Arkos Art Gallery.

87 professional photographers of Lithuanian press submitted their works for the jury of the contest along with amateurs, military and civilians, and foreign photography artists. Pictures taken in 2008-2009 were divided into two subcategories - professional and amateur. Around 800 pictures were presented for the contest.

Lithuanian, Latvian, and Estonian Defence Ministers discussed points of defence cooperation and stressed the importance of the Baltic contribution to the NATO Response Force, Riga (Latvia), June 16.

The Baltic Battalion was evaluated as ready for the duty in NRF-14 after the „Baltic Eagle 09" exercise coming to an end in Latvia. BALTBAT is planned to rotate to the NATO Response Force (NRF-14) in the first half of 2010.

Chief of Defence of Lithuania Lt. Gen. Valdas Tutkus left for Belgium

June 15, Chief of Defence of Lithuania Lt. Gen. Valdas Tutkus will participate in the conference „SHAPEX 2009" held in the Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe in Mons (Belgium).

The conference will bring together top-ranking military and civilian officials from NATO member states, and commanders of the Alliance's commands. The main address of the conference will be read by former President of Sweden Martti Ahtisaari.

Baltic Battalion evaluated as ready for duty in NRF

Baltic Battalion evaluated as ready for duty in NRF International evaluating team judged the Baltic Battalion as ready to perform duty in the NATO Response Force (NRF-14) on June 12. The conclusion was approved by the head of the international evaluating team Lt. Col. Dalius Polekauskas and senior inspector of NATO supervisors' team Lt. Col. Karel Shuch during the „Baltic Eagle 09" exercise held in Latvia.

BALTBAT was evaluated according to NATO procedures by the international evaluation commission: representatives of the Baltic States' armed forces supported by personnel from the Danish Advisory and Training Staff that has been playing a significant role in the military training of the Baltic Land Forces' brigades for several years. Evaluation process was observed by representatives of NATO headquarters. Evaluation of the combat readiness of the Baltic Battalion was one of the purposes of the „Baltic Eagle 09" exercise.

Lithuania‘s major contribution to the NATO Response Force

The biggest military international training that took place in the Baltic States this year „Baltic Eagle 09" ( Adaži Military Area, Latvia, June 2 - 17) proved joint Lithuanian, Latvian and Estonian Baltic Battalion ready for duty in the NATO Response Force, rotation 14 (NRF-14). The evaluation in compliance with NATO requirements was proceeded by an international commission under supervision of representatives of NATO commands.

PRT-9 increased security measures after air attacks on Talib fighters

June 12, after discussions of the Allied Ministers Lithuanian Minister of Defence Rasa Juknevičienė contacted Commander PRT-9 in Ghowr, Afghanistan, Col. Alvydas Šiuparis to get a first-hand view of security situation in the Lithuanian compound near the provincial capital Chaghcharan and in the surrounding area.

Allied Defence Ministers meet in Brussels

Minister of National Defence Rasa Juknevičienė will participate in NATO Defence Ministers' meeting in Brussels, Belgium, on June 11-12.

During the meeting the Ministers will look into the running issues of NATO defence planning, operations, and revision of response force, along with points of the Alliance's partnership policy.

Minister of Defence of the Federal Republic of Germany Dr Franz Josef Jung paid a formal visit to Lithuania on June 10. Ministers of Lithuania and Germany discussed points of cooperation, NATO and the EU issues.

Federal Defence Minister of Germany said his visit in Lithuania was a step facilitating elaboration of bilateral defence cooperation. Around 400 military of Lithuanian Armed Forces have undergone training in Germany, German Air Component will come to conduct Baltic Air-policing mission in autumn 2009 for the third time. „By implementing these measures we fulfill our commitments to NATO and underline the closeness of cooperation between our countries," the guest said.

Exhibition „Lithuanian Armed Forces in Photography 2008-2009“ displayed in Arkos Art Gallery

Exhibition of works provided for the „Lithuanian Armed Forces in Photography 2008-2009" Tadas Dambrauskas' Photography Contest will be put on public display in Arkos Art Gallery, Vilnius, on June 10.   

The exposition is the final stage of Tadas Dambrauskas' Photography Contest „Lithuanian Armed Forces in Photography 2008-2009"  - a traditional event of the Ministry of National Defence held for fifth time in a row.
