On June 30 multinational special operations forces Exercise Flaming Sword 2019 wrapped in Lithuania. Participants of the month-long exercise trained arranging resistance in the captured part of a country. Main attention at the exercise was given to enhancing cooperation between NATO allies and partners in a resistance propelled by the special forces and the collective defence of the Baltic region.

On June 26-July 3 British soldiers of the headquarters company of the 3 Commando Brigade assigned to the UK-led Joint Expeditionary Force (JEF) are sharing experience with colleagues from units of the Motorised Infantry Brigade Griffin and the National Defence Volunteer Force Žemaičiai Military District at the Lithuanian Armed Forces General Povilas Plechavičius Training Area (Kairiai, Klaipėda region).

Defence Ministers and Chiefs from the nine partner nations of the UK-led Joint Expeditionary Force will meet on 28 June in Klaipėda, Lithaunia, to mark the one-year anniversary of the force reaching full operating capacity.

On June 25-26 NATO air capabilities will be training in the Baltic countries' airspace at scheduled live-flying Exercise Ramstein Alloy 19-2. The objective of the series of annual exercises is to hone command and control of NATO airspace surveillance and control, air policing and other capabilities in the Baltic region. The exercise will train search and rescue procedures, loss of communication management and air-refuelling.

On June 19-20 commanders of the Multinational Logistics Coordination Centre (MLCC) met in Sutomore-Bar (Montenegro) to present the work done in 2019 and still ahead. Lithuania was represented by Commander of the Logistics Command Col Ramūnas Baronas at the event.

Exercise Iron Wolf approaching conclusion, intense offensive and defensive operations underway

The last and the most intense phase of training began at Exercise Iron Wolf 2019-I in its second week - nearly 4 thousand soldiers from 10 NATO allies are practising offensive and defensive actions in Lithuania.


"Original units of the Iron Wolf Brigade and other units assigned to it had an opportunity to train full spectrum of actions and procedures at the exercise: from raised alert level, march from the homebase to assembly areas, and execution of defensive and offensive actions, to integration of different weapon systems. At the moment the majority of exercise objectives have already been achieved ," Commander of the Mechanised Infantry Brigade Iron Wolf Colonel Mindaugas Steponavičius said.

On June 15 Military Representatives to NATO of Estonia, Spain, United States, Poland and Lithuania paid a visit to the Defence Staff of the Lithuanian Armed Forces. The guests were welcomed by Deputy Chief of the Defence Staff for Planning Captain (Navy) Renius Pleškys.

On 14-16 June two largest NATO ship formation groups - Standing NATO Maritime Group One (SNMG1) and Standing NATO Mine Countermeasures Group 1 (SNMGMG1) will participate in one of the largest annual naval exercise BALTOPS 2019 in the Lithuanian territorial waters of the Baltic Sea.

On June 8 two-week international Exercise Iron Wolf 2019-1 begins. Approximately 4,000 soldiers from 10 countries will train not only in military training areas of Gaižiūnai (Jonava region) and General Sivestras Žukauskas (Švenčionys region) but also in civilian territories and their surroundings. Columns of military vehicles will drive to exercise sites via public roads and urban areas.

On June 5 - 10 LNS Aukštaitis (P14) patrol ship takes part in multinational manoeuvres Baltic Coach 2019 in the Baltic Sea. She will train with FGS U-33 submarine and FGS Fehmarn of the German Navy.
