Commander of the Lithuanian Air Force Maj Gen Edvardas Mažeikis will visit NATO's Combined Air Operations Centre

February 27 and 28 Commander of the Lithuanian Air Force Maj Gen Edvardas Mažeikis will pay a visit to the NATO Combined Air Operations Centre (CAOC) in Uedem, Germany.

 

During the visit Lithuanian Commander will meet with Commander CAOC Lt Gen Dieter Naskrent and his Deputy Brig Gen Marian Jeleniewski. Lithuanian Commander plans discussing with CAOC representatives NATO's Air policing mission in the Baltic States and the Baltic Region Training Events (BRTE) which are also supported by the Combined Air Operations Centre. The nearest BRTE is planned to take place in Lithuania on March 27 and 28.

HMMWV driver's course for Ukrainian military personnel held at the Lithuanian Military Academy

From February 20 to 24 for a fourth time HMMWV Truck Driver's Course was organised at the Kazlų Rūda Training Area for Ukraine's military personnel before deployment on multinational operations in Afghanistan, in composition of the Lithuanian-led Provincial Reconstruction Team of Ghor (PRT-15).

 

HMMWV Driver's Course is organised according to the same HMMWV training programme as to Lithuania troops. The course will be two-fold - theoretical part including familiarization with the structure of HMMWV truck, technical exploitation, and work safety, and practical part - driving.

Third rotation of the Air Training Team deploy to Afghanistan

February 15, the third rotation of the Lithuanian-led multinational Air Training Team (ATT-3) was deployed on the mission in Afghanistan from the Lithuanian Air Force's (LITHAF) Šiauliai Air Base. The unit will provide training for local Afghan helicopter pilots and maintenance crews.

 

The new shift includes 8 troops from LITHAF Air Base and one representative of Latvian military.

 

Just like the previous groups ATT-3 will be deployed at Kandahar Airfield and continue training Afghan National Army members to conduct squadron level helicopter operations.

Admiral Danish Fleet on visit in Klaipėda

On February 13 and 14 Admiral Danish Fleet Adm (R) Finn Hansen is paying a visit to the Lithuanian Navy in Klaipėda.

 

During the visit the guest met with Commander in Chief of the Lithuanian Navy Adm (R) Kęstutis Macijauskas for a discussion over the relevant matters of Lithuania's and Denmark's navies, bilateral cooperation in maritime matters, etc. The guest was briefed on the activity of the Lithuanian Navy and maritime rescue coordination centers.

 

Adm (R) Finn Hansen was also visited the Naval Flotilla where he observed Standart Flex 300 class patrol ships and Hunt class mine countermeasures ships and related equipment.

Officers of Afghan National Army share experience with colleagues from Lithuania

From mid February troops of the Training Team of the Provincial Reconstruction Team (PRT-14) of Ghor began a theoretical course on emergency management for members of the Afghan National Army Company, i.e., rendering assistance to locals in case of a range of emergency situations. During the cycle of lectures ANA officers will  receive knowledge from their Lithuanian colleagues and likewise share their own experience.

 

According to the Commander of the ANA Training Team Lt Col Ričardas Stakelis, the courses are important and useful not only to the ANA officers but Lithuanian soldiers as well. ANA officers also shared their experience and knowledge, specific information about customs and culture of local residents that is vital for handling emergency situations fluently.

Chief of Defence of Norway pay a visit to Lithuania

On February 9 Chief of Defence of Norway Gen Harald Sunde will conduct a formal two-day visit in Lithuania during which he is planned to meet with Minister of National Defence Rasa Juknevičienė, Lithuanian Chief of Defence Lt Gen Arvydas Pocius, other representatives of the Lithuanian Armed Forces, and visit the Energy Security centre.

 

Leadership of the Ministry of National Defence of Lithuania and the Lithuanian Armed Forces will discuss with the Norwegian CHOD the Baltic-Nordic cooperation initiatives and priorities, bilateral military cooperation between Lithuania and Norway, contribution of the countries to multinational military capabilities, and opportunities of cooperation in combat training and preparation.

Chief of Defence of Lithuania participate in the Baltic-Nordic Chiefs of Defence meeting

February 7, Chief of Defence of Lithuania Lt Gen Arvydas Pocius departs for Stockholm (Sweden) where on February 8 he will participate in the Nordic-Baltic Chiefs of Defence meeting.

 

In the meetings Lithuanian, Danish, Estonian, Latvian, Norwegian, Finnish and Swedish CHODs will discuss security situation in the Baltic Sea and Arctic region, future international military training events, multinational operations, and points of cooperation in seeking more efficient exploitation of resources.

Such meetings take place annually in the member states on a rotational basis. Last year the meeting was hosted by Estonia. The last time the meeting took place in Lithuania was in January 2007.

Troops of the Motorised Infantry Brigade Iron Wolf participate in international training event in Denmark

From February 6 to 9 troops of the command staff, battalions and assigned units of the Motorised Infantry Brigade (MIB) Iron Wolf participate in a training event organised by the Danish Division in Haderslev (Denmark). During the training troops improve skills of operational planning in multinational environment and prepare for multinational command post exercise Red Knight to be held in Latvia this March.

 

Together with 30 Lithuanian military there are participants from the staff of the Danish Division and the staffs of the Estonian, Latvian and Danish brigades affiliated to the Danish Division.

The main NATO training event held in Vilnius

February 7, the main NATO training event - NATO Training Synchronization Conference- annually organised in one of the NATO countries by the NATO Supreme Allied Command Transformation (SACT). The opening of the conference was attended by SACT Commander Gen Stephane Abrial, Chief of Defence of the Lithuanian Armed Forces Lt Gen Arvydas Pocius and Chief of Staff of SACT Lt Gen Karlheinz Viereck.

 

During the opening of the conference Lithuanian Chief of Defence Lt Gen A. Pocius said that successful operation in the mission area requires interoperability with the allies, unified thinking and work which we will achieve through aligned training programmes. "The conference is intended to facilitate the synchronization of training of member countries and cultivation of a unified approach to military training", said the Chief of Defence of Lithuania.
