Readiness of Lithuanian troops for duty in EU Battlegroup will be evaluated 2009-07-13
![]() From July 13 to 17 around 250 soldiers of King Mindaugas Mechanised Infantry Battalion will participate in a „Calm Response" exercise in Gaižiūnai Military Area (Jonava Distr.). The exercise will be held to evaluate readiness of the Battalion's 1st Motorised Infantry Company for standby period in the EU Battlegroup. In the exercise soldiers will have to fulfil various tactical tasks: march, assembly, assault, defence, and similar.

Foot patrol of Chaghcharan PRT-9 2009-07-13
![]() July 11, PRT-9 conducted a foot patrol in the provincial capital Chaghcharan. Peacekeepers talked to locals, took interest in their complaints, distributed news and publications. As usual, foot patrol attracted major attention from children who followed the soldiers all the way and tried communicating in English despite their age. Peacekeepers cheered children up with gifts - exercise books, writing means, Lithuanian folk tales in Dari, balls, and kites - a very popular toy in Afghanistan.

Commander Air Force of Belarus visits Lithuania 2009-07-10
![]() On July 8-9 Commander of Air Force of Belarus Maj. Gen. Igor Azarenok with delegation is visiting Lithuania. On July 8 the guests met with leadership of Lithuanian Air Force in Kaunas to talk over cooperation of both countries' air forces.
Today, June 9, Belarusian delegation is visiting Search and Rescue Post in Kaunas and Lithuanian Air Force Aviation Base in Šiauliai to get first-hand impressions of the NATO Baltic Air-policing mission currently conducted by Czech Air Contingent. |

Medics of PRT-9 patrolled remote regions of Ghowr 2009-07-08
![]() July 3, military medics of Chaghcharan PRT-9 patrolled remote locations of Ghowr province. Lithuanian, Ukrainian, and Georgian specialists of military medicine examined and provided medical assistance for over 100 people of remote Karbashi Quale village together with their Afghan colleagues.
According to observations of the head of Medical Unit of PRT-9 Maj. Valerija Urbienė, „the villagers mainly had painful backs and joints and their children had cold and rash faces." |

Lithuanians win silver in World „Jak-52" Aerobatic Championship 2009-07-08
![]() On June 25 - July 4 World „Jak-52" Aerobatic Championship took place in Rojūnų (Panevėžio Distr.) airfield, Head of Gen. Jonas Žemaitis Military Academy Air Force Staff Officer Course Lt. Col. Eltonas Meleckis and Capt.(R) Onutė Motiejūnaitė of Lithuanian Land Force represented Lithuanian Armed Forces in the national team.

Soldiers of Lithuanian Armed Forces saluted the new President of the Republic of Lithuania 2009-07-08
![]() On July 12 soldiers of Lithuanian Armed Forces solemnly paraded in a formation of flags and divisions in the Cathedral-Basilica Square of Vilnius in the Inauguration Ceremony saluting the new President of the Republic of Lithuania and the Commander-in-Chief of Lithuanian Armed Forces Dalia Grybauskaitė. Commanders of services of Lithuanian Armed Forces were formally introduced to the President.

The final KFOR welcomed home in Panevėžys 2009-07-07
![]() Homecoming ceremony of the 20th rotation of Lithuanian platoon KFOR-20 will be held in Panevėžys on July 8. The coming back troops will be welcomed by the Minister of National Defence Rasa Juknevičienė, acting Chief of Defence of Lithuania Adm. (R) Kęstutis Macijauskas, Commander of the National Defence Volunteer Force Col. Antanas Plieskis, and other representatives of the Ministry of National Defence and the Armed Forces; they will be awarded with medals for participation in international operations and other signs of distinction.

Second rotation of National Support Element finished evaluation exercise 2009-07-07
![]() On June 29-July 2 evaluation exercise of the second rotation of the National Support Element (NSE) took place in Gen. Adolfas Ramanauskas Combat Training Centre (Nemenčinė). NSE is responsible for providing general logistic support for Lithuanian military units deployed in Afghanistan and Lithuanian troops serving in international staffs. During the exercise readiness of NSE-2 for participation in the mission was evaluated.

Chief of Defence will return regalia of command to the Commander-in-Chief of Lithuanian Armed Forces 2009-07-03
![]() On July 3 at midday Chief of Defence of Lithuania will solemnly return regalia of authority to the Command-in-Chief of Lithuanian Armed Forces in the Cathedral Square, Vilnius. Outgoing Chief of Defence Lt. Gen. Valdas Tutkus will say goodbye to the members of Lithuanian Armed Forces and return regalia of command to the Commander-in-Chief of Lithuanian armed Forces President of the Republic of Lithuania H.E. Valdas Adamkus.
Solemn parade conducted to honour the outgoing General will include representation from the main divisions of Lithuanian Armed Forces: platoons of MIB „Iron Wolf" battalions, platoons from the Air Force, Naval Force, NDVF, Logistics Command, and Training and Personnel Command, a platoon of the Military Academy cadets, Honour Guard Company, and Band of the Lithuanian Armed Forces will be present. |

Logistics specialists working in Afghanistan commended on the State of Lithuania Day 2009-07-03
![]() July 2, HQ of Logistics Command of Lithuanian Armed Forces celebrated Coronation of King of Lithuania Mindaugas and State of Lithuania Day. During the event logistics specialists working in Afghanistan were awarded for outstanding merits.
Commander of Logistics Command Col. Ovidijus Eitminavičius bestowed Lithuanian Land Force Distinguished Service Medal on two logistics specialists of the Lithuanian Grand Duke Vytenis General Support Logistics Battalion. WO Viktoras Ruseckas and M. Sgt. Rolandas Šunskis were appreciated for personal contribution and dedication in fulfilling service under extreme conditions in the international NATO's operation in Afghanistan. |
