Land Forces Command (Staff)

Land Forces Command Staff is the highest Land Forces structural unit, which supports the Commander of the Land Forces in making and implementing decisions concerning preparation of the Land Forces units for Lithuanian Armed Forces tasks realization. The Staff is under command of the Chief of Staff, which is directly subordinate to the Commander of the Land Forces.

 

The mission of the Land Forces Command is to assist the Commander of the Land Forces in making and implementing decisions while preparing the Land Forces units for the armed security and defense of the land territory of the country, which would be capable to participate in international operations too.

 

The history

On 11 October 2001, Statistic Department of the Lithuanian Republic has registered Land Forces (hereinafter referred to as "LF") Command of the Lithuanian Armed Forces. Therefore October 11th is the foundation date of the LF command.

 

On 19 November 2001, the Minister of the National Defense by order has approved the LF insignia.

 

From the 1st January 2002, The Land Forces Command was renamed as The Land (Field) Forces Command.

 

At the end of 2002, The Land (Field) Forces Staff has moved from the Defense Staff (Ministry of Defense) building to the bigger premises in Viršuliškių str. 36, Vilnius and is located there up to now.

 

On 18 June 2004, The Commander of the Land Forces was given the flag of the Land (Field) Forces by the Minister of Defense of Republic of Lithuania.

 

On 23 September 2005, The Land Forces Command was accreditated by Allied Land Component Command (LCC) Heidelberg of the NATO Forces in Europe as capable to plan and conduct operations, as well as to act smoothly together with Alied Forces.

On the 1st September 2008, The Land (Field) Forces Command was renamed as the Land Forces Command.

 

On the 1st September 2008, The Land Forces Command Staff gave the responsibility of planing, controling and supporting international operations to the Joint Headquarters of the Armed Forces of Lithuania.

 

On 29 December 2010, LF Staff renamed to LF Command (LFC) Staff. 

 

The Structure

The Land Forces Command consists of the Personal Staff to the Commander of LF, Budget section, and LFC Staff. The Land Forces Command Chief of Staff, deputies Chief of Staff, staff sections (G1-G9) and Support Service comprise LFC headquarters.

Chief of Staff heads the LFC Staff; deputies Chief of Staff coordinate appointed functional areas: 
- Administration of personnel and military units;

- Intelligence;
- Operations;
- Logistics;

- Planning;

- Combat training;
- Command and control (C2).

 

Deputies Chief of Staff organize, coordinate and control all process of the military development and implementation in LF. Deputies Chief of Staff are responsible for activity organization in their functional areas, and control of the assignment fulfillment at the subordinate sections. Functional area experts of the LFC headquarters prepare and ensure orderly and regular situation assessment. Situation assessment is based on the tasks, factors and conditions analysis and on grounded alternative course of action.
