General Romualdas Giedraitis Artillery Battalion

The battalion is deployed in the central part of Lithuania, Rukla town (Jonava district).
Artillery Battalion was established on 12 August, 2000. The battalion was assigned to the Motorized Infantry Brigade "Geležinis Vilkas" in 2003 and next year the artillery battalion was named as General Romualdas Giedraitis Artillery Battalion.
The main function of the battalion is to support MIB "Geležinis Vilkas" with artillery fire.
Annual cycle of the military training for the units of the battalion starts with individual skills' development or update and is completed with the battalion headquarters' collective skills upgrading in the final field exercises with live firing of the howitzers M/50. Battalion periodically holds a variety of courses for the personnel serving in the unit. Soldiers of the Lithuanian National Defence Volunteer Forces are trained once per several years as battalion reserve.
Since 2005 the battalion participates in peacekeeping missions in Iraq and Afghanistan. One rotation of the Lithuanian-led Provincial Reconstruction Team of Ghor province was composed on the basis of the Artillery Battalion personnel in 2009. Battalion participated in this mission in its full composition and was supplemented by soldiers from other Lithuanian Armed Forces units.
In 2013 the final PRT military contingent composed on the basis of the General Romualdas Giedraitis Artillery Battalion successfully accomplished the PRT mission in Afghanistan.
During peace time the battalion cooperates with local authorities, educational institutions, organizes excursions, and participates in civil cultural events and celebrations.
