International missions


Since 1995, medical personnel of MD Jonas Basanavičius Military Medical Service have been participating in all international operations and exercises contributed by Lithuanian Armed Forces. Currently there are more than 150 medics sent to international operations and missions in Afghanistan, Iraq, Kosovo, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, and Albania. In the missions participating specialist: doctors general practitioner, surgeons, anesthesiologists, doctor's assistants, nurses, paramedics.



In 2005 Lithuania has taken up leading ISAF provincial reconstruction team of Ghowr province in western Afghanistan. At the moment 7 medics of the Military Medical Service serve in Afghanistan Lithuanian-led PRT mission. Main task for medical team is to provide Role 2 health care to military personnel within area of responsibility. Together with Lithuanian medics serve doctors from the Ukraine and Georgia. Rotation takes place every six month.
