NDVF 2nd Territorial Unit Darius and Girėnas Military District, Kaunas
Commander of NDVF 2nd Territorial Unit Darius and Girėnas Military Distric: Major Romualdas Moldaris.
On 11 March 1990, after the declaration of the Republic of Lithuania Independence restoration act, Kaunas district volunteer activity begun.
Officially 2nd territorial unit Darius and Girėnas military district was established on 27 February 1991.
2nd territorial unit Darius and Girėnas military district plans and conducts volunteer servicemen training, augments regular Armed Forces units with soldiers. The unit also conducts peace time tasks under the provision of the legal acts.

Presently the unit has nine companies: seven infantry, Crossing Company and Staff Support Company.

Crossing company (attached to Juozas Vitkus engineer battalion) is the only one such in the Volunteer Forces. The main task of this company is to assist military units in the water obstacle crossing.
