NDVF 8th Territorial Unit Didžioji Kova Military District, Vilnius

National Defence Volunteer Forces 8^th Military District  founded in  1991. The officialy day of foundation is 1^st of March, when the first manning list was aproved.

In 23^th of Novenber of 1992 the Combat Coulors was granted to the NDVF 8^th Military

District.

In 15^th of January of 1999 the official name of Didžiosioji Kova Military district was granted to the Military District.   

Nowadays NDVF Didžioji Kova 8^th Military District consist of HQ, 9 infantry and 4 specialised companies in Vilnius, Ukmergė, Utena, Trakai, Anykščiai, Zarasai, Molėtai, Ignalina and Švenčionys.  About 1200 volunteers and 70 profesional soldiers are serving in the Military District. 

The main task of the Military District is to train solders of professional service, volunteer service and solders of active reserve for the territorial defense and fulfillment of general military tasks.
