History of TRADOC

The Training and Personnel Command (TRAPEC) under the Ministry of National Defence was established by Order No. 868 of 6 August 1998 of the Minister of National Defence. Col. Romas Žibas was appointed the deputy commander of TRAPEC (Order No 1392-K of the Minister of National Defence). On 17 August 1998 the permanent structure of organization comprising 50 personnel positions was approved.

 

TRAPEC was organized at the Defence Staff facilities. In February 1999 it was relocated to separate facilities in Sapiegos street 21.

 

On 25 June 1999 by Order No. 754 of the Minister of National Defence the Training and Personnel Command under the Ministry of National Defence was renamed as the Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC) of the Lithuanian Armed Forces.

 

On 20 October 1999 by Order No. 1981-K of the Minister of National Defence the deputy commander Col. Romas Žibas was appointed the TRADOC commander.

 

On 20 February 2002 by Order No. 269 of the Minister of National Defence the Jaeger School was subordinated to TRADOC. On 30 January 2006 by Order No. V-93 of the Minister of National Defence the Jaeger School was renamed as the Reconnaissance School.

 

In January 2004 TRADOC relocated to new facilities at Silo street 5a.

 

On 30 August 2004 the TRADOC commander Col. Romas Žibas was transferred to TRADOC military personnel reserve.

 

On 31 August 2004 on Order No. P-558 by the Minister of National Defence the deputy commander Col. Jonas Vytautas Žukas was appointed the TRADOC commander.

 

Since 2 January 2008 Col. Jurgis Norgėla was appointed the TRADOC commander (by Order No. P-1646 of 19 December 2007 of Minister of National Defence).

 

On 1 September 2008 Joint Staff undertook the control functions and combat training of Lithuanian Armed Forces Military Units from TRADOC (by Order No. V-630 of 2 July 2008 of the Minister of National Defence).

 

On 25 November 2008 the Lithuanian Armed Forces Training and Doctrine Command was reorganized into the Lithuanian Armed Forces Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC) (by Order No. V-1162 25 November 2008 of the Minister of National Defence).

Lithuanian Armed Forces Personnel Administration Section was established and it undertook a part of the functions of J1 Defence Staff under Ministry of National Defence and Personnel and Social Security Department.

 

By 31 December 2008 the TRADOC had conducted administration functions of compulsory basic military service of the Lithuanian Armed Forces Reserve officers (by Order No. V-339 of 23 April 2008 of the Minister of National Defence).

 

Military Personnel Departament was subordinated to TRADOC from 1 April 2010 (by Order No. V-306 of 31 March 2010 of the Minister of National Defence).

 

On 24 May 2010 the commander of TRADOC Col. Jurgis Norgėla was transfered to the military personnel reserve (by Order No. P-482 of 5 May 2010 of the Minister of National Defence).  

 

Since 31 July 2010 Col. Gintaras Ažubalis was appointed the TRADOC commander.

 

From 14 February to 1 April 2011 TRADOC temporarly took over functions related with military drafting administration (by Order No. V-130 of 3 Fabruary 2011 of the Minister of National Defence).

 

Since 7 March 2011 LTC Aleksandras Kucharevas was appointed as Deputy Commander of the TRADOC (by Order No. V-232 of 28 Fabruary 2011 of the Minister of National Defence).

 

From 8 to 13 May 2011 TRADOC had organized the annual BILC (The Bureau for International Language Co-ordination) Conference. 85 participnats from 31 country had gethered in Vilnius. The topic of this annual BILC Conference had targeted the very centre of what language training in the armed forces was about - operational proficiency.
