Geographically vast and numerous tribute run was held

On January 11 the international tribute run called "On the path of life and death" was held as a living tradition to honor the defenders of Lithuania's freedom and in memory of the tragic events that took place 29 years ago. The tribute run is organized to express respect and gratefulness to the 13 January 1991 victims. The event was attended by Minister of National Defence Raimundas Karoblis, representatives of the Ministry of National Defence, Lithuanian Armed Forces, and NATO allies - they paid respects to the freedom defenders at Antakalnis Cemetery and greeted participants of the event at the foot of the Vilnius TV Tower.

All military instructors (except for the mission leadership and force protection personnel) that serve at al Asad air base as part of the Danish Contingent, have been temporarily repositioned to a military base in Kuwait. That includes six Lithuanian soldiers.

On January 7 the National Defence System Medals for Deployment to International Missions were bestowed on the 5th rotation of the Autonomous Vessel Protection Detachment (AVPD) at a homecoming ceremony in Klaipėda after deployment to the EU NAVFOR Somalia Operation ATALANTA off the Somali coast. The Lithuanian soldiers were guarding a World Food Programme-chartered ship taking food assistance to the Somali people during the deployment. The homecoming ceremony was attended by Head of the Representation of the European Commission in Lithuania Arnoldas Pranckevičius, Commander of the Lithuanian Navy Rear Adm (lower half) Arūnas Mockus, Commander of the MD Jonas Basanavičius Military Medical Service Lt Col Jolita Sesartienė, families of the soldiers, and other guests.
