Mechanized Infantry Brigade "Iron Wolf" (MIB IW)


     Mechanized Infantry Brigade "Iron Wolf" is a unit of the Land Forces of the Lithuanian Armed Forces.


    The Mechanized Infantry Brigade "Iron Wolf" is comprised of brigade headquarters with its subordinate Reconnaissance, Logistic, HQ and Signal Companies and six battalions: Lithuanian Grand Duke Algirdas Mechanized Infantry Battalion, Grand Duchess Birutė Uhlan Battalion, King Mindaugas Hussar Battalion, General Romualdas Giedraitis Artillery Battalion, Duke Vaidotas Mechanized Infantry Battalion and NATO Enhanced Forward Presence (eFP) Battle Group Lithuania. Headquarters of the Mechanized Infantry Brigade "Iron Wolf" and subordinate units are based in Rukla, Panevėžys and Alytus.


     Soldiers of the brigade continually participate in exercises of various levels in Lithuania and abroad, contribute to execution of the NATO-led multinational operation in Afghanistan. Units of the brigade prepare for the defense of the country and peace time operations in Lithuania. On the rotation basis units of the brigade conduct stand-by periods in NATO Response Force (NRF) and European Union Battle Group (EU BG).    


     Personnel of the Mechanized Infantry Brigade "Iron Wolf" first joined multinational operations in 1994 and have been carrying on with it successfully till present. They are deployed to peace implementation and support operations, serve in multinational staffs, logistic support or military medical units. In multinational operations they are tasked with ensuring security in local societies, preventing criminal activities, providing support and assistance to the strengthening of authority of official governments, and conducting projects for training local security forces.
