Tasks of the MD Jonas Basanavičius Military Medical Service

MD Jonas Basanavičius Military Medical Service is an Element of the Logistics Command of the Lithuanian Armed Forces responsible for Soldiers and Public Health Care and Medical Support of the Lithuanian Armed Forces. The main tasks of Health Care and Medical Support realization are to protect soldiers from diseases, injuries and to restore as many as possible sick and wounded soldiers to the service. The experience of another country points that proper planning of medical supply, qualified training of medical personnel and military society, medical support in due time and place, effective medical means supply and efficient subsequent treatment can ensure remarkable outcome. Therefore modern Lithuanian Soldiers Health Care, medical and psychological Soldiers' training are concurrent to the general preparation for the tasks execution. Presence of military medical personnel beside theatre of action, trust that medics will help if somebody will be wounded improve Soldiers' psychological shape, inject them more confidence and often help to defeat.

 

The main tasks of MD Jonas Basanavičius Military Medical Service:
  • to ensure medical support for military operations of the Armed Forces' branches and subdivisions in Lithuania and beyond its boundaries in correspondence with NATO standards and assistance to the government and municipality institutions in extreme conditions in law determinate order
  • to ensure soldiers' and other lawful persons' personal and public health care and specialized medical expertise performance
  • to ensure military society's education and training in military medicine field

 

Structure of MD Jonas Basanavičius Military Medical Service corresponds to the three main objectives in responsibility of three divisions: Military Health Care Branch, Medical Support Units Group and Military Medical Training Centre. Military Health Care Centers Group's tasks and functions by its nature are alike Military Health Care Branch's. Military Health Care Centers Group was separated from the Military Health Care Branch's structure with intention to facilitate the implementation of required changes in Medical Support Units Group's structure. The changes are related to political decision to reorganize Lithuanian Armed Forces as fully professional armed forces.
The head of MD Jonas Basanavičius Military Medical Service is commander of MD Jonas Basanavičius Military Medical Service. Chief of Staff together with subordinate Staff coordinates activity of MD Jonas Basanavičius Military Medical Service sub-units, arranges set tasks' and functions' implementation, fulfills supplies' planning.
Supplies Section is in charge of supplying MD Jonas Basanavičius Military Medical Service units with medical means and equipment, conducts other activities of maintenance.
