History

Lithuania is a Land of Volunteers

A nation can exist only in a state. Nations that have lost their statehood are doomed to the inevitable death.

In 1944 - 1953 a partisan war proceeded against the soviet occupants. There is no other precedent in the European history when a nation for ten years has struggled in the fight with a powerful and insidious enemy alone without anybody's help. All Lithuanian partisans were volunteers. Their blood was effused not in vain - in 1990 Lithuania has retained freedom and independency. A new generation of volunteers which has defended freedom and originated a Lithuanian Armed Forces has upsprung.

Volunteer traditions have a centenary history. Many Lithuanians join volunteers when a threat arises to the Motherland therefore Lithuania is a Land of volunteers.
